ADHD Assessments for Adults

Compassionate, evidence-based, and tailored to you

At Neurodiverse Nurse, we understand how important – and sometimes overwhelming – the journey to an ADHD diagnosis can feel. That’s why we’ve designed our assessment process to be as straightforward, supportive, and clinically robust as possible. Led by Donna Carter, a specialist mental health nurse and independent prescriber, every assessment is carried out with care, professionalism, and a deep understanding of neurodivergence.

Whether you’ve been wondering about ADHD for years or have recently noticed traits that resonate with you, we’re here to help you gain clarity and move forward with confidence.

How Do ADHD Assessments Work?

Our ADHD assessment for adults follows a clear, structured, and NICE-guided process that ensures accuracy, safety, and personalised outcomes. It involves a combination of validated screening tools, a comprehensive clinical interview, and consideration of your developmental history.

Initial Screening

If you are unsure whether a full assessment would be right for you, you can fill in a short screening questionnaire free of charge to determine whether a full assessment is appropriate. This helps us ensure our service is the right fit for your needs.

Neurodiverse Nurse uses cutting edge clinical technology to

  • Understand your concerns and reasons for seeking assessment
  • Explore any existing diagnoses, medication, or support you may already have
  • Help determine if your difficulties align with neurodevelopmental traits, such as ADHD

Full Clinical Assessment

If you move forward, we’ll schedule a detailed assessment appointment – usually around 90 minutes. This includes:

  • A full psychiatric and developmental history
  • Review of current symptoms and how they affect your life
  • Discussion of mental health, physical health, and any co-existing conditions
  • Use of validated ADHD diagnostic tools
  • Optional input from a third party (such as parent, partner, or friend) to offer insight into your early life and functioning

Feedback and Diagnosis

Following the assessment, we will either:

  • Confirm a diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), or
  • Offer a differential diagnosis and explore alternative explanations for your experiences

All findings are discussed in full and documented in a comprehensive diagnostic letter for your records.

What Happens After the Assessment?

Getting a diagnosis is often just the beginning. At Neurodiverse Nurse, we provide follow-up support and treatment pathways to help you adjust, plan and thrive with your new understanding of yourself.

Following your assessment, you’ll receive a detailed diagnostic letter that can be shared with your GP, employer, or support networks. We also offer a post-diagnostic follow-up session, where we can explore how the diagnosis affects your life, talk through emotional responses, and introduce strategies to help you manage ADHD effectively.

If you wish to explore treatment options – including medication – Donna, as an independent nurse prescriber, can guide you through this process personally and professionally.

Potential Treatment Options

Every individual is different – and so is every treatment plan. After your ADHD assessment, if a diagnosis is confirmed and you’re interested in treating ADHD, we offer several care options:

1. Medication Initiation and Titration

We offer safe, regulated initiation of licensed ADHD medications such as stimulants and non-stimulants. You’ll be supported throughout the titration process, with regular check-ins to monitor effects, side effects, and dose adjustments.

2. Shared Care with Your GP

Once your medication is stabilised, we can support a shared care agreement with your GP, allowing ongoing prescriptions through the NHS – reducing cost and ensuring continuity of care. Please be aware that not all ICB’s or GP surgeries will accept shared care with private providers, many no longer accept shared care even with ‘Right to Choose’ and you may need to continue paying for private prescriptions.

However Neurodiverse Nurse will work as collaboratively as possible with primary care providers, and prioritise annual reviews for our clients.

3. Non-Medical Support and Psychoeducation

In addition to medication, we explore lifestyle changes, practical adjustments, and psychological strategies. This might include:

  • Strength-based goal setting
  • Emotional regulation tools
  • ADHD support strategies
  • Guidance on Access to Work, education support, or reasonable adjustments at work

4. Referrals and Signposting

If we feel that another diagnosis is more appropriate, or if additional support is needed, Donna can refer or signpost you to trusted professionals within mental health services, coaching, or therapy.
